Biography

Marguerite Saint-Étienne de La Tour was born about 1658 in Pubnico, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Gouverneur Charles (De Latour) Saint-Étienne de La Tour (abt. 1593–abt. 1664) and Jeanne Motin (abt. 1615–bef. 1663).[1]

Marguerite (17) married Abraham (Mius) Mius de Pleinmarais (17) (born about 1658 in Pobomcoup, Acadie; son of Philippe Mius and Madeleine Helie) in 1676 in Pobomcoup, Acadie. Their known children were:

  1. Unknown Mius (abt. 1677–bef. 1686) .
  2. Marguerite Mius (abt. 1681–1702) .
  3. Charles Mius (abt. 1683– ) .
  4. Marie Mius (abt. 1686– ) .
  5. Abraham Mius (aft. 1686– ) .
  6. Madeleine Mius (abt. 1688– ) .
  7. Unknown Mius (aft. 1693– ) .
  8. Anne Mius (abt. 1697–1704) .
  9. Marie Joseph Mius (abt. 1698–1770)

In 1686, at Cap de Sable, Marguerite de ST ESTIENNE [sic], aged 21, was living with her husband, Abraham MIUS, dit Plemarch, aged 24, and their two children: Marguerite, aged 5, and Charles, aged 3. They owned 4 guns and 4 cattle. No land was listed. Her brothers, Jacques LA TOUR Sr. de St. Estienne [sic], and Charles LA TOUR [sic], also lived at Cap de Sable in 1686, along with her sister Anne de St. Estienne [sic], married to Jacques MIUS, Sr. de Pobomione [sic]. The only non-family residents at Cap de Sable were Abraham DUGAS/Jeanne GUILBAUDE [sic] and "La Liberte', Le Neigre [recte Jean Roy]", no age given. The total number of people living at Cap de Sable in 1686 was 15.[2]

Marguerite (46) married Jean Villatte (26) (born about 1678 in Prienon en Foret, Normandy, France) on 27 Jun 1705 in Port-Royal, Acadie.[3][4]

1714 Census: Port Royal: Cappe: Msr. Vilatte and his wife, i son, 2 daughters[5]

Marguerite died on 15 Jul 1748, in Annapolis Royal, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia, aged about 90.[6][7]
